With this application, you have the ability to check for updates of the Android core OS components on your Android device. Furthermore, you can verify the list of currently installed components on your device.
Updating the Android core OS components offers several advantages:

Project Mainline aims to enhance the security and safety of devices by simplifying the process of delivering updates to the Android ecosystem. This project allows for updating core OS components similar to how app updates are managed via Google Play. By adopting this approach, selected AOSP components can be delivered quicker and for an extended period without requiring a full OTA update from the device manufacturer. The mainline components remain open-sourced, with close collaboration between Google and partners for code contribution and testing.
The updates provided by Project Mainline through Google Play infrastructure target components in the Android OS Framework above the Treble Interface and hardware-specific implementation but below the Apps layer. The benefits of these updates include expediting the delivery of security fixes, privacy enhancements, and consistency improvements across the ecosystem.
Project Mainline brings various benefits in terms of security, privacy, and consistency:

 <li>Security: Accelerated security fix deliveries for critical bugs and increased device safety through component modularization such as media components and Conscrypt updates.</li>

The initial set of components supported on devices launched on Android Q includes various elements focusing on security, privacy, and consistency enhancements.
In conclusion, Project Mainline ensures a fresher OS on devices, improved consistency, and faster delivery of the latest AOSP code to users without requiring a complete operating system update. Collaboration with OEM partners is ongoing to further extend this program through joint efforts on mainline AOSP.
